Welcome 7th class

08.06.2020.

ICES žirafaDear 7th class – Hiroko, Marta-Patricia, Ken, Marijana, Natasa, Tamara, Dino and Borna – WELCOME.

with you we are starting our joint experience of NEW NORMAL, which is emerging from COVID-19.

It is not affecting so much our communication with you, because for several years we already deliver teaching and mentoring on-line, but it will probably affect the research topics. Many aspects of economic and social life already started to be changed, and we are interested to be in the frontline of contributing to the design of the NEW NORMAL. The title of our doctoral program ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND INNOVATIVENESS obliges us to be proactive, innovative in defining and solving problems and responsible for own choices.

In the line of the title, a core framework of our program is based on the broad definition of entrepreneurship as ‘the pursuit of opportunity beyond the resources you currently control’ (Stevenson 1983, 1985, 1990), effectuation (Sarasvathy, 2001), understanding the need ‘to focus upon the nature of „enterprise“ in individuals and upon the ways that effective enterprising behavior can be encouraged in all kinds of organizational, social and economic circumstances’ (Gibb, 2002), and the collaborative concept of Triple/Quadruple/Quintuple Helix (Etzkowitz & Leydesdorff, 2000).

At the same time, we want to be a part of the global discussion on UN Sustainable Development Goals https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/sustainable-development-goals/, the UNESCO discussion on future of education https://en.unesco.org/futuresofeducation/ and NEW NORMAL. International structure of your class (Ken from Canada; Marta-Patricia from Spain; Hiroko – a Japanese living in Turkey; Tamara, Natasa, Marijana, Dino and Borna from Croatia) is a guarantee to connect local with global, all the time.

We are privileged to offer you to use Global Entrepreneurship Monitor data base for your research work, since a group of us (Singer, S., Sarlija, N., Pfeifer, S. and Oberman Peterka, S.) are running this survey for Croatia from 2002. Being a member of the global consortium, we are able to provide also data from other countries, besides the published ones (www.gemconsortium.org)

We are enthusiastic to work with you on your research topics (and jointly improve also a new pedagogy for online education!).

WELCOME to the ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND INNOVATIVENESS, and enjoy a very demanding but interesting period of your life.
