On September 19, 2025, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek (Croatia) and Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha (Spain) organized an online workshop “How to prepare a research proposal to apply for funding?”. The two universities, partners in the European University Alliance project COLOURS, joined forces to strengthen doctoral research training and collaboration.

The interactive 3.5-hour session, held via Microsoft Teams, engaged 16 PhD students from UNIOS (Entrepreneurship and Innovativeness) and UCLM (Economics & Business). Working in teams, students developed research proposals with guidance from academic instructors and two distinguished experts:

  • Professor Estrella Díaz Sánchez (UCLM, Faculty of Law and Social Sciences, Ciudad Real), Marie Sklodowska-Curie Senior Global Fellow and leading scholar in Marketing, gave a lecture on Crafting competitive project proposals.
  • Dr. Lex van Teeŭelen (HU Business School, Utrecht), Professor of Entrepreneurial Finance and experienced EU grant applicant, shared insights on Targeting EU funding possibilities.

The workshop helped doctoral students acquire practical tools to design competitive applications for funding, postdoctoral opportunities, and international research grants. This EU-funded initiative highlights the benefits of cross-border cooperation in building research excellence within the COLOURS alliance.
