Honorary Title Professor Emeritus awarded to Slavica Singer and Josip Planinić

Central celebration of the Day of the Josip Juraj Strossmayer University in Osijek (Dies Academicus) was held yesterday at the assembly hall of the Agricultural Faculty, within which formal session of University Senate and other side events were organised. “Dies Academicus is traditionally a day of gathering of the academic community and this formal session is dedicated to it. Josip Juraj Strossmayer University in Osijek was founded in 1975, and today it is in its 38th academic year and in 306th year of higher education in Osijek. University has been proudly wearing Strossmayer’s name for 23 years, and it is the only university in eastern Croatia,” pointed out rector Gordana Kralik in her opening speech, adding that academic community today consists of more than 22 thousand members.“The mission of Osijek university is to systematically promote higher education, based on scientific research and artistic creation, and education of students in order to improve knowledge, achieve the interests of state and society, and the respect and affirmation of human rights,” said the rector.

After the musical performances and speeches honorary title professor emeritus was awarded to Vjekoslava Slavica Singer and former rector Josip Planinić, and a honorary doctorate was awarded to academician Ivica Kostović.
