Growth Strategies for Small and Medium-sized Businesses

This course focuses on theory and practice of growing businesses, which are of vital importance for securing of sustainable competitiveness and employment in economy of any country. The key topics are: definition of company growth, why is company growth important for national economy, importance of growth of small and medium-sized business for national economy; overview of small and medium-sized business growth theories, problems in academic approaches, conceptual framework and models, the role of theory and conceptual frameworks; how small companies grow, development of framework for growth process research: performance, potential (knowledge base, idea base, resources base, control base, leadership base), strategic plans.
Course execution is a combination of short lectures and encouraging of intensive student participation in discussions. Utilizing literature and experience, student teams will prepare a framework for the exercise of consultant audit of the growth capacity a selected enterprise.
